Let's assume you have X-ray glasses that allow you to look into your brain and your spouse's. As you do, you may see a discrepancy. (And don't say, “I knew it. I just knew something was wrong there!”)

In your brain, a bundle of nerves connects the left and right hemispheres (the technical name is corpus caollosum). To illustrate these differences we're going to call on Fred and Wilma, each of whom represents his or her gender. Wilma has up to 40 percent more nerves linking the two sides of her brain than Fred. (Take a look at the diagram.) This means she's able to use both sides of her brain together at one time, whereas Fred has to switch from one side of his brain to the other, depending upon what he needs. Wilma enjoys more cross-talk between both sides of her brain. And she uses all her brain at one time.
